Pet Care Financial Assistance Program

At Barely A Dog Rescue, we believe that no animal should suffer simply because their family is experiencing a difficult financial period. When unexpected hardship arises, essential veterinary care and grooming services can quickly become overwhelming. Our financial assistance program exists to help bridge that gap.

This program provides temporary financial relief for necessary veterinary care and essential grooming services for pet owners who are experiencing financial hardship and meet our eligibility criteria.

What We Can Help With

Assistance may be approved, in part or in full, for:

  • Essential veterinary care recommended by a licensed veterinarian

  • Medical treatment for illness, injury, or urgent health concerns

  • Necessary grooming services required for a pet’s health, comfort, or wellbeing

All requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, based on urgency, documentation, and available funding.

What We Cannot Help With

To ensure our resources are used responsibly and reach animals in genuine need, we do not provide financial assistance for:

  • Routine or preventative care, including standard vaccinations

  • New pet or puppy vaccines, wellness exams, or initial vet visits

  • Costs associated with acquiring a new pet

  • Ongoing or non-essential services

Example: Obtaining a new puppy or kitten does not qualify for assistance for routine or immediate veterinary costs, unless the animal is facing a serious or unexpected medical issue requiring urgent care.

Medical Emergencies

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency that requires immediate attention, we encourage you to seek care right away.

While we will always do our best to support emergency cases when possible, we strongly advise pet owners to pay for emergency care at the time of service and submit an application for financial assistance after the fact.

Emergency assistance and reimbursement requests are not guaranteed and remain subject to eligibility, documentation, and available funds.

How Assistance Is Provided

To maintain transparency and accountability:

  • Payments are made directly to veterinary clinics or grooming providers

  • Funds are never issued directly to pet owners

  • Approved services must be performed by licensed or established professionals

This structure allows us to help as many animals as possible while ensuring responsible use of donations.

Eligibility And Application Process

Due to limited funding, applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements.

Applicants will be required to:

  • Complete a financial assistance application

  • Provide financial documentation verifying need

  • Submit estimates, invoices, or receipts from the veterinarian or groomer

  • All information submitted is kept strictly confidential and reviewed with care and respect.

Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Assistance is dependent on eligibility, urgency, documentation, and available funding.

Apply In Advance (Strongly Encouraged)

We strongly encourage pet owners to apply for our financial assistance program even if they do not currently require support.

Approved applicants will be placed on file, allowing them to bypass the application process and receive faster consideration should an urgent or emergency situation arise in the future.

Please note that pre-approval is valid for a period of one year from the date of approval. Pre-approval does not guarantee funding or access to care in an emergency, as all requests are reviewed on a case by case basis, taking into account eligibility, urgency, and available funding at the time of the request.
